Accuracy restoration and automation retrofit

Accuracy testing comes first: geometric and motion accuracy are measured item by item and a test report issued against the factory standard. First know where the error is and how large it is, then set the restoration path.

Mechanical restoration: guideway repair and scraping, ball screw replacement or repair, spindle overhaul, backlash removal. Mechanical restoration is the main body of accuracy restoration; parameter compensation is only the finishing touch.

CNC retrofit: adding a CNC system to a manual machine, or updating the system on an ageing CNC: the machine base and part of the drives are kept while the control system and operator interface are renewed. The investment is normally a fraction of a new machine, and it suits equipment with a sound mechanical base.

Automation integration: once accuracy is restored, the machine is tied into automation upgrades: automatic loading and unloading, in-line inspection, linkage with the production line. Restore accuracy before talking automation - with accuracy below standard, automation merely produces scrap steadily.

Compensation and calibration: backlash, pitch error and thermal deformation compensation parameters are set from measured data, and after calibration a test cut verifies them.

Re-check interval recommendation: accuracy drifts, so we give a re-check interval and retention measures (lubrication, loading rules, environmental control) to keep the drift rate under management.

Common Questions

Is converting a manual machine to CNC worth it?

Three conditions decide: the mechanical base (worthwhile only if the bed and guideways are sound), the machining need (CNC functions and accuracy are genuinely required), and the cost comparison (conversion normally runs one third to one half of a new machine). Where all three hold, it pays; where the mechanical base is poor, repair the mechanics first and reassess, or simply consider replacing the machine. We provide a written assessment and lay the arithmetic out for you.

What brand of CNC system is used after the retrofit?

We choose by your needs and your existing equipment base: where a mainstream brand is already in the plant we standardise on it as far as possible (programming and maintenance are easier), and where special functions are needed we select by function. We are not tied to any brand - the selection principle is reliable, sufficient, easy to maintain. You can buy the system yourselves or have us procure it; programming, installation and commissioning, training and handover are our work either way.
