The acceptance report carries the test data and parts list, the equipment file is updated in step, and the machine goes back onto the preventive maintenance plan so performance cannot decay again.

How a major overhaul is carried out

Defining the overhaul scope: the scope is fixed after strip inspection: which parts are repaired, which replaced, which left as they are. Scope and cost are confirmed in writing before work starts; if additional items emerge during execution, they are reported for your confirmation first - no acting first and asking later.

Scheduling the shutdown window: the overhaul window is aligned with the production plan, with spares, tooling, lifting gear and manpower staged in advance. Only work that requires the machine to be down is done inside the window; anything that can be prefabricated is completed beforehand, compressing the shutdown to the minimum.

Stripping and inspection: the original condition is recorded before dismantling (clearances, preload, worn areas, wiring sequence), and stripped parts are sorted and marked. Every part is inspected for wear, deformation and cracks, and a strip inspection record is issued.

Repair and replacement: worn parts are repaired by the proper process (weld build-up, brush plating, sleeving) or replaced, base component accuracy is restored, and standard parts - bearings, seals, couplings - are renewed to specification. Critical joints are tightened to standard torque.

Assembly and alignment: reassembly follows the assembly procedure; coupling alignment is done with dial indicators or laser equipment to tolerances set by speed class, clearances and preload are adjusted to standard, and every datum is recorded.

Trial run and acceptance: no-load trials check noise, temperature rise and vibration; loaded trials check output and cycle time; accuracy is re-measured against the standard. Delivery counts only when both trial runs pass and both parties sign the data. We then track the machine for three months after the overhaul.

Common Questions

How many days does a major overhaul normally take the machine down?

It depends on the scale and scope of the equipment: a single machine normally three to seven days, a whole line or a large unit one to three weeks. The accurate duration is given after strip inspection - the full picture only appears once it is opened. We list the milestones in the plan, prefabricate what can be prefabricated, and compress the shutdown window as far as possible.

Is overhauling better value than replacing?

Do the arithmetic: overhaul cost plus restored remaining life, against new equipment investment and depreciation. Where the base components are sound, overhaul usually pays; where they have failed or the process is about to be superseded, we say plainly that replacing is better. The assessment is issued in writing, the data is on the table, and the decision is yours.
