Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture

Qiandongnan is a centre of Miao and Dong settlement, historically known for forestry (the Qingshui River timber trade, flourishing in the Ming and Qing), agriculture and handicrafts (silver jewellery, embroidery, batik), with a thin modern industrial base. During the Third Front era an electronics industrial point was laid out at Kaili (some Base 011 supply plants relocated there in the 1960s-70s) along with machinery firms, and Kaili became the prefecture's industrial centre. After reform and opening-up, Kaili electronics (the Zhenhua family's Kaili works) converted to civilian production, specialty foods scaled up (Kaili sour soup, Majiang blueberries, Leishan tea), and tourism at Xijiang Qianhu Miao village (developed after 2005) and Zhaoxing Dong village rose, forming a green industrial pattern of "specialty foods plus forest products plus tourism".

In 2025 the Qiandongnan prefecture's above-scale industrial value added grew steadily. Specialty foods are the largest industry (Kaili sour soup, a national geographical indication; Majiang blueberry deep processing; Leishan and Danzhai tea; Congjiang fragrant pig), with the sour-soup trade (fermentation, seasoning, packaging) growing explosively in recent years. Forest product processing (deep timber processing, bamboo products, natural-product extraction) is steady; electronics supply (conversion of the legacy Kaili Zhenhua capacity) and new materials are getting under way; tourism (Xijiang Qianhu Miao village, Zhaoxing Dong village, Zhenyuan old town, Rongjiang's "Village Super League") sees annual visitor numbers among the province's highest, with the phenomenal "Village Super League" and "Village BA" IP driving the fusion of culture, sport and tourism. The Kaili ETDZ is the main carrier.

The Kaili sour-soup consortium (a cluster of fermentation, seasoning and packaging firms), the Majiang blueberry deep-processing cluster, Leishan and Danzhai tea firms, forest product and bamboo product clusters, transformed Zhenhua-Kaili enterprises, and the cluster of Xijiang, Zhaoxing and Zhenyuan tourism operators.

Qiandongnan's maintenance demand centres on food processing and tourism facilities. Sour-soup and condiment plants (fermentation tanks, filling lines, sterilising equipment) have expanded fast in recent years, so new-line installation, commissioning and upkeep outsourcing demand has surged; blueberry and tea processing (washing, sorting, freeze-drying, kill-green, rolling and drying) involves large, strongly seasonal equipment counts; forest product processing (sawing, drying kilns, presses, CNC woodworking) keeps upkeep steady; tourism facilities (Miao and Dong village hotel M&E, wastewater treatment, ropeways and performance equipment) offer a large bundled O&M market.
