Qiannan Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture

Phosphorus chemicals mark Qiannan's modern industry. Development of the Guizhou phosphate mine (the Kaiyang-Wengfu area) began in 1958, and the Wengfu Mining Bureau (later restructured into Wengfu Group) built a large phosphate mining, beneficiation and chemical base at Fuquan-Weng'an, making it an important national producer of phosphate fertiliser and phosphorus chemicals. During the Third Front era equipment makers such as the Duyun Bridge Factory (today's China Railway Bridge family) and the Dongfang Machine Tool Works (Duyun, large machine tools) were laid out, and Duyun became one of the few cities in southern Guizhou able to build heavy equipment. After reform and opening-up Wengfu Group (merged with Kailin into the Phosphorus Chemical Group) kept expanding, and the Duyun-Fuquan-Weng'an corridor of "phosphorus chemicals plus equipment" took shape; in 2016 the 500-metre aperture spherical radio telescope (FAST, "China's Sky Eye") was completed in Pingtang, and astronomy science outreach and big data (FAST data processing) became new calling cards.

In 2025 the Qiannan prefecture's above-scale industrial value added grew steadily. Phosphorus chemicals are the largest industry (the Phosphorus Chemical Group's Wengfu base and Chuanheng Shares, upgrading from phosphate fertiliser toward iron phosphate, purified phosphoric acid and by-product resource recovery — new energy materials and fine phosphorus chemicals). Equipment manufacturing keeps its signature (Duyun Dongfang Machine Tool's large machine tools, bridge steel structures); new energy materials (lithium iron phosphate supply) and new materials are getting under way; tourism (the FAST astronomy town, Libo's karst World Heritage site, Longli-Guiding wellness) works alongside specialty agriculture (Duyun Maojian tea, roxburgh rose, fruit). The Duyun ETDZ and the Fuquan-Weng'an industrial park are the main carriers.

The Phosphorus Chemical Group's Wengfu base (phosphate fertiliser and fine phosphorus chemicals), Chuanheng Shares (iron phosphate and feed-grade phosphates), the Duyun Dongfang Machine Tool family (large machine tools), bridge steel-structure firms, FAST operations and astronomy-tourism entities, and the Duyun Maojian tea consortium.

Qiannan's maintenance demand centres on phosphorus chemical plant. Phosphate mining and beneficiation (crushers, ball mills, flotation, conveying) and chemical plant (reaction tanks, concentration, extraction, pumps and valves, pipe racks) involve large equipment counts in corrosive, harsh conditions, so anti-corrosion upkeep and overhauls never stop year-round. New energy material plant such as iron phosphate (reactors, drying, kilns) is seeing growing new-build and upkeep demand; accuracy maintenance and CNC retrofits on large machine tools (the Dongfang family) are specialist work; FAST support facilities and the astronomy town's M&E O&M are a niche specialty market.
