Zunyi

Zunyi's modern industry runs on two threads — liquor and Third Front aerospace. Maotai town has brewed for over a thousand years; the state-owned Maotai Distillery was formed in 1951 from the merger of three old stills (Chengyi, Ronghe and Hengxing), and the sauce-aroma craft has been passed down ever since. During the war of resistance Zunyi was a distribution hub for northern Guizhou. After the Third Front programme began in 1964, Zunyi was designated a key aerospace city: Base 061 (today's Aerospace Tenth Academy, developing launch vehicles and defence equipment) was relocated and rebuilt here, with a dozen-plus institutes and factories set into the hills and tens of thousands of scientists and technicians moving into northern Guizhou during the "prepare for war" era; defence suppliers such as the Fenghua Machine Factory (batteries) and the Meiling Chemical Plant were laid out too. After reform and opening-up Base 061 converted to civilian work (aerospace vehicles, lithium batteries, satellite applications), and Moutai Group grew into a trillion-yuan-market-cap liquor firm, driving the Renhuai-Xishui sauce-aroma liquor cluster.

In 2025 Zunyi's above-scale industrial value added grew steadily. Sauce-aroma liquor is the largest industry — Moutai Group leads the nation in revenue and in tax and profit, with Xijiu, Guotai, Zhenjiu and other sauce-aroma firms clustered here and the Renhuai liquor area topping CNY 100 billion in output. Equipment (the Aerospace Tenth Academy family: LOX/kerosene engines, special vehicles, micro-motors, lithium batteries) keeps its national-team standing; new materials are scaling up (Wuchuan-Daozhen bauxite and alumina, Zunyi Titanium's sponge titanium, manganese-series materials); deep processing of tea (Meitan and Fenggang zinc-selenium tea) and chilli (Xiazi chilli city) is steady. The Zunyi ETDZ, Xinpu New Area and Renhuai Famous Liquor Industrial Park are the main carriers.

Zunyi's maintenance demand runs on three fronts — liquor, equipment and materials. At sauce-aroma liquor firms the brewing shops (cranes, cooling-hall equipment, qu-making units) and the packaging lines (bottle washing, filling, labelling, case packing, ever more automated) hold a huge equipment count; automation retrofits and upkeep on filling and packaging lines are the biggest source of work, though Moutai-family supply chains have high entry requirements. Precision machine tools, test benches and special equipment at aerospace firms demand a high professional bar with classified-access qualification. Overhauls on aluminium (alumina digestion, electrolysing cells) and titanium (chlorination, distillation, magnesium reduction) plant are large-volume and run in special conditions. Our focus: automation retrofits and upkeep on sauce-aroma packaging lines, qu-making and brewing equipment maintenance, aluminium and titanium plant overhauls, and machine-tool accuracy calibration.
