The spindle is the one part of a lathe you cannot fudge. Once the bearings pit, a replacement set costs as much as two years of proper maintenance. Daily care is about controlling temperature rise and contamination, not about repairing.
The most common stoppage on a machining centre is not an electrical fault — it is a blocked lubrication system nobody noticed. By the time the guideways are scored, the damage runs into tens of thousands of yuan. The five-fixed lubrication rule is not a slogan; it is a set of concrete parameters to be applied on every machine.
A large share of machine tool electrical faults are drives damaged by poor cooling, and they all happen in summer. They have one thing in common: open the cabinet and you can scrape a layer of dust off the heatsinks.
The easiest mistake in an overhaul is doing everything at once — the money runs out and the accuracy is still not right. A systematic accuracy survey before the overhaul separates what must be fixed from what should be left alone, and the savings usually pay for another machine.
Machine tools are the highest-value, most precision-sensitive equipment in a plant: one machining centre costs as much as dozens of ordinary machines, and its accuracy is eaten away bit by bit by wear, thermal deformation and poor lubrication. More critically, machine-tool accuracy degrades gradually - by the time parts start coming out of tolerance, guideway scoring and leadscrew wear are often irreversible, and the repair cost far exceeds the investment in daily care.

Your crews work to standard while professional judgement has a backstop - the two layers together make a complete care system.
Look at three things: the condition of the base components (bed, guideway surfaces), how far accuracy can be restored, and how well it still matches your process. For an old machine with sound base components, care plus overhaul is often more economical than replacement; where the base components have already deformed, we say plainly that renewal should be considered. The basis for judgement is check-up data, not the machine's age.
Machine-tool care fears two extremes: enshrining the machine like an ancestor and daring not use it, or running it to death with no maintenance. The first wastes capacity; the second borrows against its life. The right posture is embedding care into the production rhythm - ten minutes of warm-up at start, guideway cleaning after the shift, one oil-circuit check a week - together under two percent of a shift, in exchange for a much longer accuracy-holding period. One more point often overlooked: much of a machine's degradation is noticed first by its operator (the sound has changed, the vibration is stronger, the surface pattern on the workpiece is wrong). Opening up the operator's anomaly-reporting channel and taking it seriously is like fitting every machine with a free sensor.
