Both line types share heavy dust, large load swings and frequent plugging. The key to care is controlling the process window and enforcing a cleaning regime.

The pellet mill is the heart of a feed plant and the machine most prone to blocking. A blocked die usually traces back to conditioning and feeding rather than the mill itself. Control the process window and blockages drop away.
The grinding section of a feed, grain or biomass plant is a high-risk area for dust explosions. A dust explosion is not a low-probability event: it happens once concentration, ignition source, oxygen and confinement all come together. The job of maintenance is to make sure they never do.
Biomass pellet lines work on much the same principle as feed lines but run harder: the feedstock is high-silica, high-fibre material such as sawdust, straw and rice husk, which wears faster, and its moisture and particle size swing much more, making pelletising harder. Care focuses on feedstock management and wear-part life.
Elevators and conveyors are the arteries of a production line — one blockage stops everything. Their failures follow patterns: elevators are vulnerable to plugging and belt drift, conveyors to jamming and wear. Care targets exactly those points.
These lines have three defining traits: continuous running, where stoppages cost dearly; high dust concentrations with explosion-protection requirements; and fast consumption of key parts (ring dies, rollers, hammers, bearings) under harsh duty. The same pellet mill loses life multiples faster on biomass pellets than on feed - copying a generic maintenance manual guarantees losses. Intervals and part selection must both be recalculated from the actual duty.
The maintenance logic for this category is "wear-part life management, dust explosion protection, and lubrication at high-temperature points": manage the life of ring dies, hammers and bearings by throughput and measured wear; control dust concentration and ignition sources per explosion-protection codes; and select grease and seals for hot pelleting points by actual duty. Biomass feedstock is hard and abrasive, compression ratios are higher and the die-roller zone runs hotter, so for the same pellet mill model, lubricant selection, inspection frequency and wear-part life must all be recalculated for pellet duty. We have projects in both kinds of plant, and our plans are set by measured data from your raw material and duty - never off a template.
It depends on the current state: where electrical explosion ratings are inadequate or a grounding system is missing, that is hard spending and must be done; cleaning regimes, dust-extraction retrofits and added vent panels are management plus small-modification spending with a very high return. We first run a hazard survey and produce a list, rank it by risk level and rectify in phases, controlling the most dangerous items first - you keep control of the spending pace.
Success or failure in feed and pellet line care comes down to two figures: whether a wear-part life register exists, and whether the right grease was chosen for the high-temperature points. The first decides whether your downtime is planned or firefighting; the second decides whether main-shaft bearings last three months or the better part of a year. Three points for whoever runs both production and equipment. First, don't wait for output quality to sag before changing ring dies and rollers - change them by cumulative throughput and measurements, and the dies suffer less damage and can be refurbished for another round. Second, dust cleaning is a safety issue, not a housekeeping one: the explosion risk from re-entrained settled dust far exceeds that of the original dust cloud, and vacuum cleaning is far safer than blowing with compressed air. Third, pellet-line duty is much harsher than feed-line duty - maintenance intervals copied from a feed plant are almost always too long for a pellet plant, and must be corrected against your own measured conditions.
