Baoshan

Baoshan (the old Yongchang) commands the Southern Silk Road and the Yunnan-Burma route, famed historically for trade, tea and jade working. Modern industry began with power, machinery and sugar: small-hydro clusters were built on tributaries of the Nu and Lancang rivers, and from the 1950s Baoshan (including Tengchong and Longling) developed sugar (cane), tea (Dianhong, Pu'er) and machinery repair. The Third Front era left a few supply points. After reform and opening-up Baoshan grew border trade and processing through the Houqiao and Diantan ports; after 2018 it seized the green-energy opening — LONGi Green Energy's Baoshan base (monocrystalline silicon) landed and expanded, making Baoshan one of the nation's important green-silicon PV bases and turning an agricultural prefecture into a green-manufacturing city.

In 2025 Baoshan's above-scale industrial value added grew quickly. Green silicon PV (LONGi Baoshan's monocrystalline silicon and supply chain, the Shuifa family) is the largest industry; green energy (hydro, solar) outputs steadily; deep processing of plateau agriculture (Baoshan small-grain coffee, a national geographical indication; tea, dendrobium, fruit) is scaling up, and the coffee industry (growing, roasting, deep processing) is known nationwide; sugar and food processing are steady; tourism (Tengchong's volcanoes and Rehai, Heshun Old Town, the western-Yunnan war-of-resistance memorials) moves with border trade. The Baoshan ETDZ and the Longyang-Tengchong belt are the main carriers.

Baoshan's maintenance demand centres on PV and farm-product processing. At the monocrystalline-silicon plant, pullers, slicers and the pure-water and exhaust facilities need continuous upkeep and retrofits, at a high bar; coffee and tea processing (hulling, roasting, grading, packaging) means large equipment counts with concentrated seasonal maintenance and growing automation upgrades; sugar mills (milling, clarification, evaporation, crystallisation) overhaul on defined cycles at large volume; tourism facilities (hot-spring M&E, hotels, cableways) are a speciality line.
