Qujing

Qujing (the old Qujing Prefecture) is the gateway to eastern Yunnan, and its modern industry began with coal and power. In the 1950s the Qujing coal mines (Enhong, Housuo and other districts) were developed at scale, making the city Yunnan's largest coal base; large thermal plants (the Qujing and Eastern Yunnan power stations) were built on that coal, and Qujing long supplied most of the province's outbound electricity. Under the Third Front programme Qujing took in machinery, chemicals (the Zhanyi fertiliser plant) and defence suppliers. After the 2010s Qujing seized the green-energy opening: from 2018 LONGi Green Energy's Qujing base (monocrystalline ingots and wafers) landed and expanded in phases, with Solargiga Energy and JA Solar following — and Qujing leapt from "coal-power city" to a nationally important green-silicon PV base.

In 2025 Qujing's above-scale industrial value added ranked among the province's best. Green silicon PV (LONGi, JA Solar and the Solargiga family, covering the full ingot-wafer-cell chain) leads the nation in output scale; green aluminium (electrolytic aluminium and deep processing) is expanding on clean power; coal-fired and new-energy (wind and solar) output is steady; traditional chemicals (coal and phosphorus) are upgrading towards fine chemicals; equipment and new materials advance alongside. The Qujing ETDZ and the Zhanyi-Malong belt are the main carriers, and the city is building into a nationally important base for green energy and green manufacturing.

Qujing is one of Yunnan's largest maintenance markets by volume. At PV crystal and wafer plants the pullers, slicers and cleaning equipment are large in scale and highly automated; upkeep and process-equipment retrofits are continuous, with high demands on cleanliness and stability. At aluminium smelters the overhead cranes, anode assembly and casting equipment run hot, and upkeep and retrofit demand is heavy; overhauls on coal-power and chemical plant (boilers, turbines, gasifiers) follow defined cycles at large volume; pure-water and exhaust-treatment facilities at silicon-materials plants are specialist operations.
