Zhaotong

Zhaotong (the old Wumeng) sits where Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan meet, and lived historically on salt (Zhaotong well salt), tung oil and trade — a node on the Southern Silk Road. Modern industry began with coal and power: Zhaotong is rich in coal, mined at scale from the 1950s, and a power base grew on that coal plus Jinsha River hydropower (the Xiangjiaba and Xiluodu reservoir areas touch Zhaotong). The Third Front era left a few supply points. After the 2010s Zhaotong seized green energy and industrial relocation: Shenhuo Aluminium (electrolytic aluminium and processing) set down here, green silicon (integrated hydro-silicon projects) moved ahead, and Zhaotong shifted from a traditional farming-and-coal area into a green-manufacturing city of north-east Yunnan.

In 2025 Zhaotong's above-scale industrial value added grew quickly. Green aluminium (Shenhuo's electrolytic aluminium and deep processing) is the largest industry; green silicon (integrated hydro-silicon projects) and green energy (hydro, coal-fired, solar) provide support; deep processing of plateau agriculture (Zhaotong apples, gastrodia, potatoes, Sichuan pepper) is scaling up — Zhaotong apples and its little meat skewers have become brands; tobacco (the Zhaotong Cigarette Factory) is steady. The Zhaotong ETDZ and the Shuifu-Ludian belt are the main carriers, and the city is building into a regional centre and green-manufacturing base where the three provinces meet.

Zhaotong's maintenance demand follows the green aluminium-silicon thread. At the smelter, overhead cranes, anode assembly, casting and fume-treatment equipment run hot — upkeep and retrofits are heavy and continuous. Green silicon (monocrystalline and industrial silicon) means specialist upkeep on smelting furnaces and line equipment; hydro and coal-power plant overhauls are large-volume on defined cycles; farm-product processing (apple sorting and cold chain, gastrodia slices, potato processing) spreads wide. Our focus: smelter potline overhauls and retrofits, silicon smelting equipment upkeep, hydro and coal-power maintenance, and farm-processing line upkeep.
