Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture

Honghe is one of the earliest regions of modern industry in China. After 1885 the Gejiu tin mines were worked at scale; the Yunnan-Vietnam Railway opened in 1909 and the Ge-Bi-Shi railway (China's first privately funded railway) was completed in 1915, shipping Gejiu tin to world markets and making the "tin capital" famous globally; in the 1950s Yunnan Tin (Yunxi) became the nation's largest tin base. During the war of resistance Gejiu tin was a strategic material, propping up national foreign exchange and the ordnance industry. Under the Third Front programme Yunxi was expanded and industrial points laid out at Kaiyuan (the Jiehua plant, coal chemicals and fertiliser) and Mile (leaf redrying), forming the southern-Yunnan industrial corridor of "Gejiu tin — Kaiyuan chemicals — Mile tobacco".

In 2025 Honghe Prefecture's above-scale industrial value added ranked among the province's best. Non-ferrous metals (Yunxi's Gejiu tin smelting and deep processing, copper-lead-zinc, green-aluminium supply) are the largest industry; tobacco (the Honghe Cigarette Factory, Mile redrying) is steady; new materials (tin materials, rare and precious metals) and chemicals (coal, phosphorus) advance together; deep processing of plateau agriculture (Mengzi pomegranates, Yuanyang terrace red rice, Mile grapes) moves in step with tourism (the Yuanyang Hani Terraces World Heritage site, Jianshui Old Town). The Honghe ETDZ and the Gejiu-Mengzi belt are the main carriers.

Yunnan Tin Group (the global leader in tin smelting and deep processing), the Honghe Cigarette Factory, the Mile Redrying Plant, Kaiyuan's coal- and phosphorus-chemical firms, green-aluminium and copper-smelting suppliers, and the Mengzi pomegranate and Yuanyang terrace industry consortiums.

Honghe's maintenance demand centres on non-ferrous smelting and chemicals. Tin and copper smelting (furnaces, electrolytic cells, refining, gas-to-acid systems) is large-scale and runs in harsh conditions — mechanical overhauls, anti-corrosion work and electrical automation retrofits go on year-round. Overhauls on coal- and phosphorus-chemical plant (gasifiers, reactors, pumps, pipe racks) are specialised with defined cycles; upkeep of tobacco support equipment (redrying, threshing) is steady; plateau agricultural processing (sorting, drying, packaging) means large equipment counts. Our focus: smelter overhauls and anti-corrosion retrofits, coal- and phosphorus-chemical maintenance, and upkeep of redrying and farm-product processing equipment.
