Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture

Dali (the old Dali Kingdom, at Xiaguan) is the political, economic and cultural centre of western Yunnan, famed historically for Tea-Horse Road trade, tie-dye and handicrafts. Modern industry started late: in the 1950s Xiaguan (Dali City) built power, machinery and textile works, becoming an early western-Yunnan power node on the Xi'er River hydro cascade (developed from 1958). Under the Third Front programme Dali took in machinery and chemical suppliers such as Xiaguan Machinery and the forerunner of Dali Pharmaceutical. After reform and opening-up Dali grew tourism services on the world-class Cangshan-Erhai resources while cultivating green energy (wind, hydro), equipment manufacturing, food processing (milk fan, walnuts, tea) and biopharmaceuticals (notoginseng, fleabane) — a twin-wheel "tourism + green industry" structure.

In 2025 Dali Prefecture's economy gives equal weight to tourism and green industry. Cangshan-Erhai (the 5A scenic cluster, the Erhai ecological corridor) rank among the province's top for annual visitors, and tourism-wellness and the digital economy (Dali's digital nomads, creative industries) are rising; green energy (wind, the Xi'er hydro cascade, solar) outputs steadily and new-energy equipment (wind-farm O&M, component making) is developing; food processing (milk fan, walnuts, tea, fruit) and biopharmaceuticals (notoginseng, fleabane — the Dali Pharmaceutical family) are scaling up; advanced manufacturing and new materials are starting. The Dali ETDZ and the Xiangyun-Midu belt are the main carriers.

The Dali tourism operator cluster (Cangshan-Erhai scenic area), wind and Xi'er hydro operators, the Dali Pharmaceutical family (fleabane/notoginseng), the milk-fan, walnut and tea food-processing cluster, and Xiangyun-Midu's advanced manufacturing and new-materials firms.

Dali's maintenance demand centres on new energy and tourism facilities. Wind farms (in the western-Yunnan wind belt) need gearbox, pitch, yaw and box-transformer service, and PV plant O&M demand is growing; hydro electromechanical overhauls follow defined cycles; tourism facilities (cableways, cruise boats, hotel M&E, sewage treatment) form a large, specialist upkeep market; food processing (washing, drying, pressing and packaging for milk fan, walnuts and tea) means large equipment counts; pharmaceutical cleanroom utilities and extraction lines are sticky.
