Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture

Dehong lies on the China-Myanmar border, a node of the Southern Silk Road and China-Myanmar trade (Ruili and Wanding are famous ports). Historically its economy was coloured by jade and gemstone working and trade, tea and border commerce, with bustling cross-border trade between Ruili and Muse. Modern industry began with sugar: after the 1950s Dehong (including Mangshi, Ruili and Yingjiang) built mechanised sugar mills, and cane sugar became a pillar. The Third Front era left a few supply points. After reform and opening-up Dehong grew border trade, processing and assembly (jewels and jade, rosewood, electronics assembly) and cross-border agricultural cooperation through the Ruili and Wanding ports; the Ruili national key development and opening pilot zone (set up in 2012) pushed the clustering of the port economy and manufacturing.

In 2025 Dehong Prefecture's economy is led by the port economy and speciality agriculture. Sugar (cane sugar and deep processing) is the largest industry; cross-border processing and assembly (jewels and jade, rosewood, electronics, farm products) develops on the ports; speciality agriculture (coffee, macadamia, tropical fruit, winter-early vegetables) is scaling up; green energy (hydro, solar) is steady; tourism (Dai culture, border charm, the Mori waterfall) moves with cross-border tourism. The Ruili-Mangshi belt is the main carrier, and the prefecture is building into the gateway hub of the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor and a border opening-up demonstration zone.

Dehong's maintenance demand centres on sugar and port processing. Sugar mills (milling, clarification, evaporation, crystallisation) overhaul and maintain on defined crushing-season cycles at large volume; cross-border processing and assembly (jewel and jade polishing, woodworking machinery, electronics assembly, farm-product processing) means many machines with upkeep scattered across small shops — packaged custody is the mainstream; O&M demand for port warehousing and logistics (cold-store refrigeration, conveying and sorting) is growing; hydro electromechanical overhauls are steady.
