Youyang Tujia and Miao Autonomous County

Youyang is a Tujia-Miao homeland; the Youyang Tujia-Miao Autonomous County was established in 1983. Historically its economy rested on trade in tung oil, raw lacquer, medicinal herbs and mountain goods (Youshui shipping linked it to western Hunan); the use of wild sweet wormwood (Artemisia annua) resources has a long history, and since the 2000s it has become one of the world's main sources of artemisinin raw material (Youyang's artemisinin content ranks among the nation's highest). The modern industrial base was thin, with a few Third Front supply points. In recent years industries have been cultivated on ecological and cultural resources: tourism development at Taohuayuan (the core scenic area in the contest over the prototype of Tao Yuanming's Peach Blossom Spring) and Gongtan Old Town (on the Wu River Gallery); scaled planting and extraction of sweet wormwood (artemisinin feedstock), tea (Youyang green tea, tartary buckwheat) and camellia oil; and hydro and wind development is advancing.

In 2025 Youyang County's economy was led by tourism and speciality agriculture. The Taohuayuan · Gongtan Old Town scenic areas (5A and 4A) rank among the top of south-east Chongqing for annual visitors, with the Wu River Gallery and mountain summer-wellness driving services; the full sweet-wormwood chain (planting, extraction, artemisinin feedstock supply) keeps its globally important position; deep processing of tea, camellia oil, tartary buckwheat and high-mountain vegetables is scaling up; clean energy (hydro, wind, solar) is being developed steadily; and farm-product processing (decoction pieces, essential oils, food) is the main industrial form. Youyang is building into a strong Wuling county integrating tourism and eco-industry.

Youyang's maintenance demand centres on extraction plant and tourism facilities. Upkeep of pumps, heat exchangers, distillation and explosion-proof systems in sweet-wormwood extraction (lixiviation, concentration, crystallisation, solvent recovery) is highly specialised — a speciality core line; upkeep of tea and camellia-oil processing equipment (fixation, rolling, drying, oil pressing, refining) is steady; upkeep of scenic facilities (cableways, cruise docks, hotel M&E, sewage treatment) is important work; and O&M demand at mountain wind and PV plants is growing. Our focus: explosion-proof and anti-corrosion upkeep on extraction plant, farm-processing line upkeep, and O&M of scenic and new-energy facilities.
