Yuzhong District

Yuzhong is where Chongqing's industry began. After the treaty port opened in 1891, foreign trading houses, match factories and silk mills rose along the river, and the Eling Second Printing Plant (part of the Central Printing Works system relocated inland in 1939) became a landmark of China's modern printing industry. During the war of resistance Chongqing was elevated to a special municipality and made the wartime capital; in the wave of coastal relocation a great many machinery, textile and ordnance firms were sited in and around Yuzhong — the city held only 39 factories before the war and 1,518 by 1944, and Yuzhong became the lifeblood of wartime China's economy. Under the Third Front programme headquarters-type institutions clustered here. After reform and opening-up manufacturing moved out and Yuzhong became a finance and commerce centre; the adaptive reuse of old plants (the Eling No. 2 cultural-creative park) is a model of urban renewal.

In 2025 Yuzhong's economic output was about CNY 178.2 billion, with the highest tertiary share in the municipality. The Jiefangbei-Chaotianmen business district is the west's premier commercial area; financial value added ranks first citywide, and head-office economics and professional services cluster here. Urban-type industry such as software IT services and industrial design develops within office towers, while manufacturing has moved out to Liangjiang New Area and district-county parks.

Yuzhong has no large-scale manufacturing floor, so maintenance demand concentrates on the O&M of building M&E equipment (central AC, elevators, power supply and distribution, fire-protection systems) and commercial facility management, plus the M&E packages in the conversion of old plants in cultural-creative parks. Our role in Yuzhong is more a business-facing window: clients' headquarters and procurement decisions are mostly here, while field service is delivered citywide and in the surrounding area.
